By now I’m sure you have heard of Jamaican Black Castor Oil (JBCO), if not where have you been, girl? Naturals take time to sing its praises every time product staples come up as a topic. Companies have incorporated it into their product formulas eg Ecoco -Eco Styler gel and Shea Moisture. But nothing quite beats the original- brown, honey-like, magic.
Why it is Magical?
The benefits of using JBCO:
- moisturises and softens hair
- treats dandruff
- promotes all hair growth (you can use it on you hair, eyebrows and beard.
- great for flaky or itchy scalp (due to it’s anti-fugal and antibacterial properties)
- even treats acne and relieve muscle pain.
It’s basically coconut oils cooler younger sister.
Despite seeming to be newer than argan oil or coconut oil for hair, it has been used for decades in Jamaica.
The founder of Sunny Isle JBCO, Delroy Reid grew up watching his mother and grandmother apply JBCO to their hair and acne. It was the source of their moisturised, thick, long hair. It also kept their skin clear.
How to Use Jamaican Black Castor Oil
Apply a small amount to your roots and scalp at night before bed. Massage it in, for a couple minutes then go sleep. the oil absorbs easily into the scalp, so it won’t make a mess. Girl, you don’t even have to worry about your silk/satin scarf or pillow! You can make this a habit you repeat 3 times a week, up to every day.
Hot Oil Treatments
Once a week, use JBCO as a hot oil treatment. Apply a generous amount of oil from your roots to your tips. Massage it into your scalp and hair. Then cover your hair with a plastic cap, and sit under the dryer for 20 to 30 minutes. Finally, rinse with lukewarm water.
Eyelash, Eyebrow, or Beard Growth
JBCO works on facial hair, too. It can help fill in bare patches on your eyebrows as well as grow you some luscious long lashes! For those with beards, JBCO can help you grow a thicker a fuller beard.
Face: Apply JBCO to a clean, freshly-washed face.
Eyelashes or eyebrows: Dip a mascara wand or cotton swab into the JBCO, then use a clean tissue or towel to wipe away the excess. Apply a thin layer across your lashes and/or eyebrows. Repeat daily.
It’s best to apply JBCO at night before you go to sleep. It allows for plenty of time to work its magic before you rinse it off in the morning. Use lukewarm water to remove all traces of the oil from your skin.
Beards: Apply 6-8 drops of JBCO into your facial hair daily and massage well.
Ok so “burnt smell” doesn’t sound to great, you don’t want to smell like a smoker. Let’s face it, not even smokers want to smell like a smoker. Don’t worry about that, you can always add a little fragrance to it such as lemongrass, lavender and ylang ylang. For the lazies like me, there’s a better idea! Try out you SunnyIsle’s scented JBCO, such as lavender and ylang ylang.
JBCO works for all hair types and textures. A healthy scalp means healthy hair. It works for all hair types, because the oil works your scalp ie the your roots/hair follicles and not your hair .
JBCO can be used to treat and fix alopecia, bald spots, eczema, dandruff, dry brittle hair, hair breakage, itchy scalp, thinning as well as rapidly increase hair growth (including eyebrows and eyelashes).
Jamaican Black Castor oil is more effective than regular clear castor oil because of the ash content due to roasting of the beans. The more ash content, the more effective the oil.
It is 100% Jamaican Black Castor Oil (Ricinus Communis. It is 100% natural, organic and sulphate-free. There is nothing in it that will harm your hair. It should only be used externally.
